ELKINS — Tygart Valley United Way is announcing their fifth annual United for Kids Hygiene Drive and calling for donations to help support schools in five counties.

The Hygiene Drive will run from June 21 to Aug. 4 to help youth in Marion, Randolph, Taylor, Barbour and Tucker counties have what they need to “face their day with dignity.” The Hygiene Drive will help stock the hygiene pantries in around 50 schools in the five counties.

“We asked teachers what we can do to help and they said hygiene items are really needed,” said Tygart Valley United Way Regional Engagement Director Angela Daniels. “Many teachers pay for these resources with their own money so we want to help take the burden off them.

“Kids really need to learn and it’s hard to focus when you’re hungry or feel unclean. School is already hard enough for kids.”

There are three ways to donate to the Hygiene Drive:

– Purchase Online: Shop online using United Ways’ Amazon Registry or Zoonga and the items will be shipped directly to United Way.

– Drop Off: You can leave the items in a 24-hour drop box at the United Way offices in Fairmont on 221 Washington St. and in Elkins on 10 11th Street.

– Host Collection: Join with colleagues, friends, or family to collect items. United Way will arrange pick-up and can provide you with flyers and collection boxes.

Last year the Hygiene Drive received triple the number of donations they had seen in the past. Daniels said they would like to “keep up the momentum.”
